Golsa NOMAD 2023 - Yves Scherer & Nebil Zaman: Yves Scherer, Nebil Zaman

17 - 26 February 2023
  • NOMAD St. Moritz 2023

    Yves Scherer & Nebil Zaman
  • Golsa is delighted to return to NOMAD St. Moritz this February, with a presentation of works of two artists, the Swiss artist Yves Scherer and the Kurdish-Norwegian artist Nebil Zaman.

The installation will incorporate sculptural works by Yves Scherer, as well as Scherer's paintings and lenticular prints, which examplify his singular mode of juxtaposing the ideas about personal life and emotion and those of celebrity and mass culture. Nebil Zaman's exploration of organic, raw materiality through plaster furniture is in dialogue with the pristine quality of Scherer's sculptural works.

During NOMAD, Yves Scherer has been selected as one of three artists whose work will be highlighted in a separate exhibition entitled "Artists in Flux - A Special Project Powered by Gucci." For this occasion, one of Scherer's sculptures, Boy (2019) will be presented as part of a separate exhibition.

His work has been shown internationally in galleries and institutions such as the ICA London, Villa Merkel Esslingen, Kunsthalle Basel, Eva Presenhuber, and the Swiss Institute in New York and Kunsthaus Grenchen. • Nebil Zaman, (b.1985) in Kurdistan, Iraq

    Nebil Zaman

    (b.1985) in Kurdistan, Iraq
Nebil Zaman is a Kurdish-Norwegian designer living and working in Oslo. He studied traditional woodworking and furniture design at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Zaman merges furniture making with his fascination and interest in architecture, art and technology. Based on his upbringing and experiences, he explores how our surroundings affect us socially and culturally. Zaman’s interest in materials, production techniques and visual languages shine through in his work, investigating topics such as function, form, identity and visual culture. He is most intrigued by the materiality of plaster, as it provides a sense of freedom, and a loss of control in the final outcome. While there is extreme precision in the digital fabrication techniques to create the armature, the addition of plaster to the process provides an organic element of expression and randomness.

Zaman won the Design and Architecture Norway ‘DOGA Award for Newcomers’ in 2017, and his project ‘Personal Space’ was acquired by Norway’s National Museum in 2019. In 2022 the designer presented work at London Craft and was selected for the group show “Matter” Norwegian Presence durning Salone di Mobile in Milan, Italy.
