Charlie Roberts USA, b. 1983

Biography

Charlie Roberts (b. 1983) receives his creative inspiration from traditional art, pop culture, hiphop, comics, folk art, and artists such as Matisse, Ensor, Florine Stettheimer, etc. He explores across different media, blurring the boundaries of forms, breaking established models for art and creation, with the courage to try to create with new materials, styles and techniques he fills his work with energy and unique expression. Roberts elongates his figures, making them slimmer and giving them seemingly impossibly long limbs; featuring a cast of humans, animals, and hybrid creatures enacting bizarre, surreal scenarios.

Educated from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada and Kansas University, he has held more than 40 individual exhibitions and participated in more than 30 group exhibitions around the world. Recent group and solo exhibitions include: “Vibrant Escape: An Ode to Summer,” Woaw Gallery, Hong Kong (2023), “Short Stories,” Anna Zorina Gallery, Los Angeles (2023, solo), “Light Sleeper,” Allouche Benias, Athens (2022, solo), “Good to See You,” Golsa, Oslo (2022), Bleeding Edge, Ojiri Gallery, London (2022, solo), “Angels with Dirty Faces,” Ojiri Gallery, London (2022), “Romancing Relevance,” Woaw Gallery, Hong Kong (2022), “Dream Chasers,” Woaw Gallery, Beijing (2021, solo), Sandworm, Woaw Gallery, Wan Chai (2020, solo), Cosmic Hedge, Golsa, Oslo (2019, solo).
