Our presentation for this year's Market Art Fair consist of new works by Mehdi Ghadyanloo, Johanne Hestvold, Erlend Grytbakk Wold and a Trypo bench by Edvin Helseth.
Mehdi Ghadyanloo (b.1980) is an Iranian-born, Frankfurt-based artist known for his paintings of imaginary spaces and extensive production of large-scale murals portraying surreal architectural arrangements. Through minimal heterotopic environments and the repeated use of symbolic elements such as stairs, balloons and airplanes, Ghadyanloo invites us to consider new realities and the shared universality of our existence.
Johanne Hestvold (b. 1988) is a Norwegian artist based in Oslo, Norway. Through her practice, Hestvold explores and challenges ways of reading forms and objects that surround us in everyday life. Her sculptures are often based on objects that people have a habitual relationship with. These can be various kinds of consumer goods and mass- produced objects such as clothes, plastic containers, massage beds and car parts. Through conceptual approaches and material processes, these pre-sculptural forms are reworked into new forms that unsettle certainty and question the relationship between humans and the object that surrounds us.
Erlend Grytbakk Wold (b.1986) is an Oslo-based artist working with painting and sculpture. His works are situated at the convergence between seeing and understanding, focusing on the moment where we don’t see clearly. Welcomed into a plane defined by lines and fields of foggy shadows, we revel in a world of blurred vision. Wold’s sculptures, resembling post-minimal furniture, are not made for our bodies to peruse them. Neither are his raw canvases made for the watercolors they soaked up, leaving sheer traces of color as reminders of their presence. Wold’s works are there for themselves, in their own right, but invite you to spend time in their company.
